Quick summary: This calculator computes GST on an invoice for India: GST from price excluding GST or price including GST, the correct tax type (CGST + SGST/UTGST vs IGST), and the final payable total. You only need the amount, GST rate, whether GST is included, and whether supply is intra-State or inter-State. Validity checked: Verified on 29 Jan 2026 (rates & rules cited below). Practical note: This is an informational estimate; final tax on a real invoice depends on correct item/service classification and notifications. What this calculator is for India’s GST (Goods and Services Tax) is charged on most supplies of goods and services. On invoices, GST is typically either added on top of the base price or already included in the displayed price (GST-inclusive). This calculator helps you compute the taxable value, GST amount, the correct tax split (CGST+SGST/UTGST vs IGST), and optional adjustments like TDS/TCS. When rates changed (why date matters) GST Council decisions introduced broad rate rationalisation effective 22 Sep 2025, with some categories having distinct timing (notably specified tobacco products and related cess treatment). That’s why the calculator includes a date field and lets you pick the rate shown on your invoice. The key math (inclusive vs exclusive) If GST is extra, multiply the base by the rate. If GST is included, divide by (1 + rate) to find the base, then subtract to get GST. Practical note Correct GST rate depends on the exact classification (HSN/SAC) and applicable notifications. If you’re unsure, use the rate printed on the invoice or quotation.

FAQs

Do I pay CGST+SGST or IGST?

If supplier and place of supply are in the same State/UT, it’s CGST+SGST/UTGST; if they are in different States/UTs (or imports), it’s typically IGST.

How do I calculate GST when the price already includes GST?

Use: Taxable Value = Price ÷ (1 + rate) and GST = Price − Taxable Value.

What are the most common GST rates I’ll see now?

After the 2025 rate changes, many supplies align around 5% (merit) and 18% (standard), with 40% for select de-merit/luxury items, but exceptions and special rates exist.

Are there special GST rates like 3% or 0.25%?

Yes. Official materials recognize 3% for precious metals and 0.25% for certain unworked diamonds/precious stones, and CBIC rate tables list special-rate entries.

What is GST TDS and when does it apply?

For certain notified deductors (often government/PSU), TDS is 1% under CGST (and similarly under SGST/UTGST), applicable when contract value exceeds ₹2,50,000; it’s calculated on value excluding GST/cess shown on invoice.

What is GST TCS on marketplaces (Amazon/Flipkart, etc.)?

E-commerce operators collect TCS on net taxable supplies. The government notified a reduced 0.5% total rate effective 10 Jul 2024 (0.25%+0.25% for intra-State, or 0.5% IGST inter-State).

Why can my result differ from the actual invoice by ₹1–₹2?

Invoices may round per line-item; statutory rounding rules can also apply (nearest rupee for payable/refundable amounts).

Do all businesses charge GST on invoices?

Not always (e.g., composition taxpayers generally do not collect GST as a separate line item). If your seller is under such a scheme, the invoice may be a bill of supply with no GST line.

Is the registration threshold the same everywhere in India?

No. Thresholds differ by goods vs services and some special category states; GST Council flyers summarize thresholds (e.g., ₹40 lakh for certain goods cases; ₹20 lakh for services in many cases, with lower thresholds in specified states).

Does compensation cess still exist?

Some categories have had distinct treatment and timing (notably specified tobacco-related goods where existing GST + cess continued pending later notification). Use the cess toggle if your invoice includes it.

Note: This calculator provides an estimate. Rates can vary by region and change over time. It is not tax advice.
